Des Moines, January 25, 2017— The Iowa Supreme Court will hear oral arguments in the case State of Iowa v. Eddie Raymond Tipton during a special evening session in Des Moines, Monday, February 13, at 7:00 p.m. in the Supreme Court Courtroom on the fourth floor of the Judicial Branch Building, 1111 East Court Avenue.
The evening session is open to the public and provides an opportunity for Iowa residents, who may not be able to attend the court's regular morning and afternoon sessions, to watch the court conduct oral arguments.
State of Iowa vs. Eddie Tipton, case no. 15-1515, from Polk County District Court
Defendant appeals from his convictions for passing a lottery ticket with the intent to defraud and for tampering with lottery equipment with the intent to influence the winnings. Defendant challenges the sufficiency of the evidence to support the convictions, argues the charges should have been dismissed as time barred under Iowa Code section 802.5, and claims there were numerous trial errors.
