The Iowa Supreme Court will hear attorneys argue in one case:

Spencer J. Ludman vs. Davenport Assumption High School, case no. 15-1191, from Scott County District Court

Case Summary: Defendant in premises liability action appeals from the judgment entered on a jury verdict finding defendant's negligence was responsible for injuries plaintiff baseball player sustained when struck by a foul ball while standing in an unprotected part of the visitor's dugout at defendant's baseball field. Plaintiff argues the appeal presents important issues regarding the safety of the facilities at which student athletes participate. Defendant argues sponsors of sporting events face an avalanche of litigation if the limited-duty rule is discarded in this context.

Public Reception

A public reception with the supreme court justices will follow the oral arguments in the North Grand Building auditorium. The Floyd County Bar Association is sponsoring the reception.

Note to Editors: News media are invited to attend the oral arguments. Court rules apply regarding still camera, video camera, audio recording devices, and other electronic devices used during the oral arguments.
