Welcome to the new fiscal year and all the changes that come with it. FY23 began July 1, 2022, and with it comes a new budget and new legislation. Chief Justice Christensen meets regularly with the Judicial Council, made up of the chief judge of the court of appeals, eight district chief judges, and eight district court administrators.
In 4.5 months of session, the legislature passed 156 bills and resolutions. This is about 15% of the bills that were filed in 2022.
The Iowa Judicial Branch is an independent branch of government, but it is the legislative branch that determines the judicial branch budget for each fiscal year, beginning July 1 and ending June 30 the following year.
