The citizens of Woodbury County celebrated the 100th anniversary of their courthouse in May. The Woodbury County Courthouse is unique in Iowa in that it is on the National Register of Historic Places and has been designated as National Landmark - a designation reserved for structures having national significance. While the original cost to build the courthouse was just under $1 million, the county has spent millions over the years preserving this largest government building example of prairie architecture. Visitors come to Sioux City from across the country and from other countries just to visit this most unique architectural monument to Prairie Style Architecture.
