The Iowa Judicial Branch was honored to welcome the Kenyan Judicial Service Commission on November 21, 2022 to our building. The Iowa Judicial Branch Building was one of the many stops the commission made during their two-week trip in Iowa, where they split time between Iowa City and Des Moines. The tour was led by Marissa Gaal, Public Information Assistant, and the delegation stopped to speak with Judge Mary Tabor of the Court of Appeals and Justice Matthew McDermott of the Iowa Supreme Court, who was accompanied by Molly Kottmeyer, Counsel to the Chief Justice. Earlier in their trip, the commission met with State Court Administrator Bob Gast, and Legislative Liaison Caitlin Jarzen in Iowa City to discuss performance management and judicial discipline.
Talks included the similarities between our appellate court structures, judicial selection and retention, and judicial and legal conduct. The commission was kind enough to provide gifts to the judicial branch in the manner of tea, coffee, tradition Kenyan scarves and blankets, and wood carvings, all of which are now kept on display.
